Cliff Abbott is Professor of Information and Computing Sciences. His graduate training is in linguistics with a PhD from Yale and he teaches for several programs: Communication, Information Sciences, Communication and the Arts, and First Nation Studies (First Nation Studies). His contribution to First Nation Studies focuses on the Oneida language. Over the past three decades he has played a number of cooperative roles with the Oneida nation in its efforts to preserve its language. He has helped to produce grammars, a dictionary, text collections, and teaching materials along with offering language instruction at several levels. He makes a point of offering the Oneida language course off-campus in the Oneida community.
